...For your convenience, Hospital or Nursing Home visits, as well as House Calls can be arranged, if necessary...

Appointment Booking

Should you need an appointment, please feel free to call Dr. Caraman directly at 416-730-9768 to make arrangements. Please leave a message with both your work and home numbers and he will call you back as soon as possible.

Appointments can not be made via email, as the doctor must talk to you for a brief assessment - at no charge - in order to discern your psychological motivation and hypnotizability capacity and we need back and forth dialogue to find a mutually convenient time for the hypnotizability tests.

The tests provide a systematic starting point for further organizing clinical data in a disciplined fashion and based on the results the number of hypnotherapy sessions indicated in your particular situation can be determined and a therapeutic plan can be recomended.

In hypnotherapy practice we attempt to be highly cost effective and keep visits to a minimum. It is not unusual for a patient to have only a couple of hypnotherapy sessions.

Hypnotizability Tests

Hypnotizability is a personality trait that is normally distributed and can be measured using standardized scales (Raz & Shapiro, 2002). Several well-standardized scales of hypnotizability, or hypnotic capacity, have been developed with statistical reliability in mind (Weitzenhoffer & Hilgard, 1959; Shor & Orne, 1962).

Generally, highly motivated, intelligent individuals are the best hypnotic subjects because of their ability to concentrate (Hilgard, 1974). Senile persons, certain types of psychotics and children under 6 years of age are less hypnotizable.

The hypnotizability tests were constructed as the summation score of a number of independent items, which on testing proved highly interrelated.

The initial screening tests are administrated during the Hypnotizability Assessment and exclude those for whom hypnosis is contraindicated (Kroger, 1977).

The Hypnotizability Assessment helps in establishing a positive mind-set, diminishes fears and corrects misconceptions.
